Spanish Language Grammar - What's It All About
|
Learning to speak Spanish can present many advantages, both personal and professional ones. However not everyone has the time to start learning a new language when they are adults and many may wonder what exactly it takes to start learning a foreign language such as Spanish. It is a known fact that adults find it a bit harder to learn a foreign language compared to small children, but nothing is impossible. What scares many people away when it comes to foreign languages is the grammar. Many think that it will take them forever to learn all the new Spanish language grammar rules, but things are not as they may see. It is true that languages derived from Latin have a different grammar compared to English, but there are countless ways in which you can learn. There are online courses, there are audio CDs or you can attend Spanish classes. You will find that learning Spanish grammar is not that hard especially if you already know another Latin derived language, such as French or Italian. If you start learning Spanish first, you will see that it will come very easy for you to learn them afterwards. However, before you start and jump in a Spanish grammar rules and conjugations workbook, it is recommended that you learn some Spanish vocabulary. You will see that the most frequent used 1000 words in Spanish make up the majority of the regular spoken words. Learning these thousand words will guarantee you that you will be able to have a normal conversation with almost any Spanish speaking native, given the condition that you do not discuss a specialized topic. In fact, these around a thousand words make almost 80% of the regular speech. The other 20% words you will obtain by using the thousand words. If faced with an unknown word, you can be sure that you can understand it because in that context there will also be a lot of other words that you already know. Spanish has this big advantage of being easy to learn: by knowing these thousand words you can take part in any Spanish conversation and by speaking it frequently, you will eventually learn more. After you know enough Spanish words, you can focus on the grammar itself. It is recommended to learn the most spoken words first and then the grammar, the way phrases and sentences are constructed, because vocabulary is the basis of all phrases. Indeed, Spanish grammar is a bit more complicated than English. However, it is not impossible to learn. You should try learning each tense at a time with as many verbs as you can. You should start with the most frequent used verbs and learn their tenses, starting with the present. After you have learnt the present tense of most verbs, including the ones which are not conjugated normally, move to the past tense. No matter how you learn Spanish, by yourself or by attending classes, it is very important to use at in conversations as often as you can. |
